Festival Madness
Greetings from http://www.artscalendar.co.nz
With the Auckland Writers and Readers Festival over last week, and a roaring success, this week we're taking a look at some other upcoming arts festivals that will give you a chance to explore variety in the arts. But first...
Artscalendar.co.nz Forum
We're taking this opportunity to remind you again about the artscalendar.co.nz discussion forum. We added the forum to the website in order to build a community interested in what's on in New Zealand arts at any given time. We enable interested parties, whether local or from overseas, to provide and receive a multiplicity of information, in-depth material, and personal opinions about arts events and the artists involved. artscalendar.co.nz aims to encourage cross-fertilisation and support between various areas within the arts community. We urge you again to get involved in the forum as part of your artscalendar.co.nz experience. If you have something to say about arts policy, about arts events, about arts organisations or artists - please say it ! Don't just be an observer, be a participant!
Out Takes 2003
Presented by Reel Queer, Out Takes is the festival of gay and lesbian cinema that celebrates the diversity of human sexuality and gender roles. With documentaries, thrillers, romantic comedy - Out Takes has all the variety of any other film festival and more. The provocative programme of this annual festival has been delighting audiences, gay and straight alike for nine years now, and the current selection includes films that the festival has spent literally years tracking down. Out Takes is your chance to sample some of the best underground cinema currently being produced, all with an angle on sexuality. The festival runs in four main centres: Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin, and artscalendar.co.nz has listings for all screenings on the calendar.
The Big Sing
The Big Sing is the New Zealand Choral Federation's secondary school's choral festival, featuring literally hundreds of choirs, ten regional festivals kicking off in Dunedin and Wellington, then moving through Nelson/Marlborough/West Coast, Invercargill, Christchurch, Whangarei, Palmerston North, Napier, Rotorua and Auckland, and a national final in Wellington in August for the top twenty choirs nationwide. There is a huge number of entries for these events this year, and the competition is always strong. Check out artscalendar.co.nz for details of the regional festivals, support your local schools, and hear some of the best choral music around.
Christchurch Arts Festival
Coming soon to artscalendar.co.nz, complete details for the biennial Christchurch Arts Festival, 18 days and nights of the best in just about every field of the arts from New Zealand, and all over the world. Music, theatre, dance, literature, visual arts, opera... and other festival events that can't be so easily categorised! The Christchurch Arts Festval really does have something for everyone.
