Metaform 03 6 June – 7 September
Examples of innovative NZ furniture designs are on display in an exhibition showcasing the winners of the Metaform 03 competition. Designers were given the opportunity to be the first to work with an innovative new wood product, Green Seal, a hardwood alternative which uses wood from sustainably managed NZ pine plantation forests. The winning designs show how innovation and design can work together to push traditional boundaries.
Metaform 03 is sponsored by Carter Holt Harvey, AGM Publishing and Locus Research, Design and Development. Decorative Arts East and West. Standard Museum donation entry.
The Art of Islam 18 April – 15 June
Created for shahs, princes and sultans over eight centuries and as many countries, The Art of Islam presents rare objects of exceptional beauty from the Kuwait National Museum. Objects include 10th century glass and porcelain, fine carpets and ceramics, gem-encrusted jewellery and exquisite gold-leaf texts from the Qu’ran.

18 April – 15 June Defining photographs from the closing decade of the last millennium, featuring work from some of the world’s finest photojournalists.

Three Cameras in New Guinea
Until 10 August A lost colonial world is brought to life in this exhibition of photographs taken by three missionaries at work in Papau and New Guinea between 1900 and 1928.

Living Treasures Day – Matariki Day
Sunday 22 June Each winter the stars of Matariki and Puanga signal the end of one year in Aotearoa and the beginning of the next. Traditionally Maori have recognised the rise of Matariki as a time to celebrate and prepare for our indigenous new year. This year, Auckland Museum will for the first time be celebrating Matariki with a day of events including talks, educational trails, live performance, children's activities and much more. All Day.

Time in Motion – That’s Entertainment
Sunday 29 June The ‘Time in Motion’ non-fiction film series, curated by the New Zealand Film Archive, focuses on Auckland's night life and cafe society over the last 100 years.
