Dear 'Hillsters,
May and New Zealand Music Month are almost here. Like most local music operations, we are gearing up with a bunch of
activities, organised noise and carry on.
First the behind the scenes action. The basements of Arch Hill Studio have been alive with new recordings and ruckus.
Some of the regulars (Pine, Fang, David Mulcahy) have been battling it out with newbies such as Christchurch expats
Gasoline Cowboy (Jol with Greg from Fuce with Scott from Slim/Fuce) and the semi-regulars...such as the as yet unnamed
Kelly and Greta project (featuring call-in instrumentalists Gary Sullivan/Shayne Carter from Dimmer facing off against
Sonya Waters/Ben Howe from Fang) plus a heap of other stuff. Ed Case - Arch Hill Studio Chief - says our compilation
project is projected for completion by July 2025. That will give Aaron from Pine ample time to meditate on the artwork.
Also, our marketing and promotions 'teams' will have plenty of time to strategise, mind-map and flowchart...
In other news, for NZ locals, if you didn't see Fang playing pre-recorded/live on Squeeze last Sunday - you get a second
chance this Wednesday at 11.30pm TV2.
If you live in Auckland make sure you head along to the Independent Music New Zealand (IMNZ) and bFM gig at the Kings
Arms on Friday May the 9th. The kick butt lineup includes Fang, SJD, Stinky Jim, Meterman, Dub Asylum, One Million
Dollars and Autozamm. Get there early (9pm) for the full smorgasbord. IMNZ represents NZ owned independent recording
labels and distributors. There will also be giveaways of a double IMNZ sampler CD with heaps of excellent NZ independent
stuff on it, including our own Pine and Fang.
Other gigs: Later on in the month look out for... Pine at True Colours on the May 23rd in Christchurch and May 31st in
Auckland Pine and Chris Knox in-store at Real Groovy on May 30th 6.30pm A low key set from Pine and Fang at the Auckland
City Art Gallery on May 31st 2pm. ...but we'll remind you about those ones.
Finally, Arch Hill and Fang would like to BIG UP Wellington music. Firstly, large numbers of people like to go out and
see (and enjoy) live music, and secondly, the music is excellent. If there is any justice in the world leftfield pop
ramblers The Phoenix Foundation and Ghostplane (both of whom Fang played with) will soon be getting the recognition they
deserve.
