April highlights @ Te Papa
There's plenty to see and do at Te Papa this month. Be sure to see the stunning The Lord of The Rings Motion Picture
Trilogy - The Exhibition before it closes on 21 April. Not to be missed too is the Harley-Davidson: 100 Years
exhibition, which continues through April. Enjoy both these excellent exhibitions for one special joint price. April
means school holidays, and school holidays mean loads of fun activities in Te Papa's Discovery Centres. There's some
fabulous creative craft to occupy the kids. There are also the brand new video macroscopes in NatureSpace - where you
can see nature's miniature wonders beamed up large on a video screen. There's performances too from local favourites
Zappo the Magician and Captain Fearless Fickletummy as well as Pasifika Day and this month's Discovery Sunday all about
manu tukutuku (kites).April is packed with free shows - from kapa haka to Spanish flamenco; from Celtic music to Cook
Island dance and drumming, the entertainment is exciting and diverse. For the full story read on!
Exhibitions The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy - The Exhibition Exhibition extended until 21 April with thanks
to New Line Cinema Immerse yourself in the fantastic world created by Peter Jackson for his epic film trilogy. You've
seen the movies, now experience The Exhibition! Closes 21 April 2003. Adults $12. Children (4-14 years) $6.50. Family
concessions available.
Harley-Davidson: 100 years Ride on into Te Papa to see the bikes and hear the stories that created the Harley-Davidson
legend! Until 2 June 2003. Adults $7. Children (4-14 years) $4. Family concessions available.
Wild Design: A fresh look at nature Enjoy a rich selection of photographs, objects, and artworks that bring you up close
to design in the natural world. Until October 2003. Free entry.
Striking Poses: New Zealand portrait photography Come face to face with more than a hundred years of studio portraits
from Te Papa's photographic collection. Until October 2003. Free entry.
Pacific Rim: Ann Robinson's glass An exhibition of over twenty stunning glass works by acclaimed New Zealand artist Ann
Robinson. Until September 2003. Free entry.
Aainaa: reflections through Indian weddings Created by Te Papa in partnership with New Zealand Indian communities, this
exhibition explores the wedding ritual to show both traditional and modern experiences of marriage. Until 2004. Free
entry.
Experiencing Turbulence: Art and the weather / Ngä toi ö te rangi An exhibition from Te Papa's collection about artists
responding to the weather. Until mid-August 2003. Free entry.
Conflict and Reconciliation: Hone Heke Pokai Within five years of signing the Treaty of Waitangi, Hone Heke was leading
his warriors against the might of the colonial government. Explore what motivated this champion of his people's rights
in the early years of the Treaty partnership. Until 31 July 2003. Free entry.
