Red Bull Trolley Grand Prix"
Around 44,000 people headed to the Auckland Domain today to cheer on eighty teams of wannabe racing drivers in the
first ever Red Bull Trolley Grand Prix.

After two months of intense preparation and training, the teams from around the country set the course alight with
creativity, originality and hu mour. Entries were wild and wacky from a shinning Gold Member that even Aust in Powers
would be proud of to a full stage coach complete with horse and bandits.

All trolleys had to be gravity-powered, meaning no engines, no m otors and no fuel. The teams rocketed down the 700m
steep course full of da re devil turns and hair splitting chicanes that challenged all of the driver s’ racing technique
and skill. And the crowd was not disappointed with plent y of thrills and spills!

The judging was no simple task with each team aw arded points for creativity, showmanship and speed. Although speed was
of th e essence, showmanship was at a premium, with a spectacular rendition of Gre ase Lightnin’ from the very manly
Chromey Army in of course a Grease Lightni n’ trolley.
In the end it was the Wellingtonians who took first place hon ours. Team Rubber Duck Racing in a Hot Tub a trip to the
Formula 1 Grand Pri x 2004 in Melbourne. “Winning is just the best feeling in our lives – totall y blown away!”
Second place went to Saeco Bearings & Transmissions, in a stunning aerodynamic rocket aptly named The Injector who also completely the course in a record
time of 45.2 seconds.
The third prize went to Team As tor BB in a traditional Buzzy B, which showed it had plenty of sting.
