Good afternoon, here we go again, not as complicated today as last week. They say you learn something new every day.
Well, did you know that the man who invented the wetsuit turned eighty last week? Amazing isn't it, without Jack O'Neill
we would be freezing our butts off or not surfing in winter. You grommies wouldn't remember, but in the old days (sic)
guys would use a football jersey to keep warm...Thanks Jack.
Now we have the Billabong Grom fest on at Piha tomorrow. So, if you want to check out NZ's hottest young talents then be
there tomorrow. There will be good waves as well. There is also the comp on between NZ and Oz.

Weather Situation
The big High that has been sitting on us for the last week is slowly getting pushed to the east by a front and a small
Low on the mid Tasman Sea. A large beast of a Low is sitting just to the southeast of the South Island producing a small
low south swell. The Low that gave us the swell last weekend is slowly heading further east and isn't effecting us
anymore. We are getting a small northeast swell off the top of the high. There is a small Low sitting to the north of
us. There are a couple of little Lows sitting down by Tasmania.
Regional Report
North Island
Northland; Auckland; Coromandel; Waikato; B.O.P:
West Coast: We have a southwest swell of 3-5 feet with an offshore Easterly wind. The forecast is for offshores to
continue tomorrow and southeast by Sunday. The swell has picked up from yesterday, but the sets are a bit of a wait.
When they come through though - lookout! The swell will more than likely ease over the weekend on Sunday. Raglan beach
breaks today are 3-5 feet and small waves on the Points of a semi glassy couple of feet. It had looked like the swell
was getting a reasonable reboot but this arvo when you look at the Westport cam, you will see it has settled down heaps.
So, we will just have to wait and see. HT 1240.
East Coast: Small northeast swell of 1-1.5 feet and easterly onshore. It is looking like fresh easterly to
southeasterly developing over the weekend. We have about 10-12 knots right through this region. Don't expect a lot to
happen with just the tinniest of Lows to the north. Just the same old 1-2 feet maybe 2.5 of wind swell. HT 0940.
Gisborne; Wairarapa:
We have swell this afternoon from the south that should hang in there tomorrow and start to ease by Sunday. Northwest
winds this afternoon and 2-3 feet on the exposed coast and a couple of feet in Town at Gisborne. Castlepoint has a light
northeasterly this afternoon and light variables will predominate tomorrow tending northerly. HT 0730.
Taranaki:
The swell is from the southwest and this arvo we have 3-4 feet down the coast and 1-3 feet in Town. The wind is damn
perfect with easterly tending northeast in town and southeast down the coast. HT 1155.
Wellington:
West Coast; Calm and not a lot of wind. We need to put a wanted poster up as swell hasn't been around here for so long.
This arvo we have a light northerly to northwesterly breeze. Light winds tending northerly for the weekend. Flat this
arvo. HT 1155.
South Coast; We have a small south swell of about one to one and a half foot this arvo with a north to northwest
offshore. Light northerlies for most of the weekend and an easing swell. Palliser is about 2 foot with hardly any wind
at all this arvo. Variables tomorrow and Sunday by the look of things. HT 0730.
South Island
West Coast:
Light variables this arvo and for the weekend by the weather map. Southwest swell 2-4 feet and easing. We might get a
little re kick on Sunday but hard to see. A good weekend to go exploring. HT 1255.
Kaikoura; Canterbury:
A northeaster this arvo and tomorrow with a southwest forecast for Sunday. We have lumpy 1-1.5 feet. There is a small
1-2 feet of cleaner surf on the other side of the peninsular. Northeast wind swells and northeast winds for the weekend.
Kaikoura Northeast winds and the south swell has gone. This arvo we a have a couple of feet of east swell lazily
slipping in. This will tend more to the northeast tomorrow. Not expecting a lot that's for sure. Nothing like last
weekend. HT 0655.
Dunedin; Southland:
Small south swell of a couple of feet this arvo and not a lot of wind. Just a light northeasterly. The forecast is for a
burst of southwest tonight and then back to the northeast tomorrow. So we might just see a lift in swell from the south.
HT 1535.
