id Dunedin audience
(Dunedin, Otago, 21 February 2003) Tickets to the much-anticipated id Dunedin 2003 - Otago Daily Times Winter Collection
on 27 February are selling fast and organisers are ensuring the whole audience experience is heightened this year.
Adding to the unique spectacle of being face-to-face with Dunedin's finest design labels Carlson, NOM D, Mild Red and
Dot Com, they will also be served a complimentary glass of Deutz and cash ONLY sales of beverages throughout the show
with wait service at their seats. For those wanting more of a fashion-fix, Frances Hooper of famed New Zealand label
World and a selection of Dunedin's design elite will hold an Industry New Zealand public lecture on 28 February at
12noon. Thanks to funding from Industry New Zealand this public lecture is free.
This year marks the fourth annual id Dunedin show. Launched in 2000 at Bennu Restaurant and Bar, with attendance at 450
and a waiting list of over 300 people, organisers quickly realised that there was huge potential for this unique event.
It was a first at this level to feature Dunedin-only designs and for audiences to experience close up and personal an
event of this kind - where normally only media or buyers are invited. Ensuring the on-going audience participation and
interaction has been a priority for organisers and in 2001, after much investigating, they secured the longest catwalk
at the City's beautiful architectural icon, the Dunedin Railway Station. This venue has been a success for audience and
designers alike.
This year's show marks another first with a special Industry New Zealand public lecture from Frances Hooper of World
along with a selection id Dunedin designers at the Glenroy Auditorium from 12noon on 28 February. Public lectures by
world-class industry leaders and supporting emerging designers is an integral role of Industry New Zealand, who work
closely with the Otago Polytechnic's School of Fashion and the Dunedin Fashion Incubator. Frances Hooper will present a
video of the latest World collection from L'Oreal NZ Fashion Week, followed by a discussion on the fashion industry in
New Zealand and the development of the World brand from its inception to its current international. This is a unique
opportunity for id Dunedin audience, emerging designers and students, and the public to meet the people behind the
labels, to ask questions about their designs and collections for winter 2003.
Dunedin is well known for its supportive business environment, which can be seen throughout the City's key industry
sectors like Fashion. Internationally acclaimed local designers support emerging designers through involvement with the
show and mentoring at training programmes. Promoting Dunedin designers to ensure their continued business success is an
integral role of the id Dunedin Fashion Incorporated Society's committee who volunteer their time throughout the year to
produce the annual id Dunedin show.
id Dunedin Committee is chaired by Susie Staley, Staley Cardoza Lawyers; with Dale Bennett-Bardon and Margo Barton,
Otago Polytechnic's School of Fashion; Garth Stirling, formerly of Tamahine; Geoff Terpstra, Dunedin Fashion Incubator;
Juliet Fay, Aduki; and Tanya Carlson, Carlson. Committee advisors for a fourth year are Jennifer Hooker, Dunedin City
Council, and Ryan Craig, Tourism Dunedin. Event manager Emma Ramsay and sponsorship advisor Annemarie Mains join them
this year.
