Day to showcase Halswell Quarry Park
Take your family and friends to the next Halswell Quarry Park open day on Sunday 2 March.
The Friends of The Halswell Quarry Park are promoting the event as a wonderful way for Christchurch folk to view the Garden City’s latest treasure.
Entertainment will begin at the site of the actual quarry at about 1.30 pm, with a 30 minute performance from the men’s barbershop chorus, the Canterbury Plainsmen. Afterwards, a Civil Defence high angle rescue team will give a display down the face of the quarry. Another 30 minutes of singing will follow.
The Halswell Quarry Park, a council millennium project, covers 55 hectares at the old quarry site at Halswell. Twenty hectares of this area features six Sister Cities Gardens, with plants native to their respective regions.
Christchurch’s sister cities are Adelaide, Australia; Christchurch, England; Gansu Province, China; Kurashiki, Japan; Seattle, U.S.A and Songpa-Gu, Seoul, Korea.
Attendants will be at each sister city garden on 2 March to talk about current and future projects in the gardens. Council rangers and Friends of The Halswell Quarry Park will also be on hand to answer questions.
The park has picnic facilities, interesting walks, wonderful views and ample car parking. Access to Halswell Quarry Park is off Kennedy’s Bush Road and is signposted from Halswell Rd.
Halswell Quarry Park is open to the public, seven days a week.
