South Auckland Couple Strikes The Lotto Powerball Jackpot
A recently retired South Auckland couple won Powerball’s $3.2 million prize this week and say the multi-million dollar
win is the icing on the cake, because both of them have really worked hard all their lives.
Roseland’s Lotto in Papakura sold the winning ticket on Saturday night (Draw 814) and on Sunday morning the couple woke
up to the realisation that they were New Zealand’s newest multimillionaires.
The couple who are regular Lotto players found out that they had won on Sunday morning after checking the results in the
local paper and on Monday immediately made arrangements with their bank manager before talking to family and friends.
The winners wish to remain anonymous but plan to divide the amount equally amongst their children.
“We’re thrilled. Everyone at Lotto wishes them a happy and prosperous future,” says the New Zealand Lotteries Commission
General Manager Marketing, Vanessa Ellis.
The South Auckland Powerball win is the second time that Powerball has been won this year. In January a $4.1 million
ticket was sold at the United Video Mangere Lotto outlet in Manukau City, when a lucky Lotto player made Lotto history
by winning Lotto first division twice in one week and Powerball.
The Papakura win sets another new double-digit milestone for Powerball by making the country’s 10th multimillionaire.
“We have had Powerball winners all over the country, with the biggest prize in New Zealand history of $11.5 million won
in November 2002 in Hokitika”, says Ellis.
Another guaranteed millionaire was also made this week in Timaru, the winning ticket was sold at the local Action Sports
Lotto outlet.
