Good afternoon, heaps of action this weekend...just maybe not on the surf front. Down in Wellington we have the Rugby
Sevens. In Hamilton we have the X Games with a guest appearance by the man Tony Hawk. Out at Raglan we have the Sound
Splash 2003 music festival. Up in Auckland the Quiksilver Airshow kicks off on Saturday with some of the worlds best
exponents of busting air in the sea. So take your pick gang!

Weather Situation
We have a sub tropical Low to the northeast that is reasonably stationary today and we should start to see a little more
swell on the East Coast beaches from an easterly angle. A massive Low is slowly moving further to the east and is
heading into the southeastern Pacific. We are still getting a low swell of 1-2 feet from the south from this thing. A
large high will give us lighter variable winds for the weekend with seabreezes effecting both coasts.
Regional Report
North Island
Northland; Auckland; Coromandel; Waikato; B.O.P:
West Coast: This afternoon we have a southwest swell of 2-3 feet with the occasional 4 footer. The wind has swung
southwest seabreeze. Tomorrow morning is looking promising with the wind light first thing and 2-4 feet expected from
the southwest. Seabreezes though. Plus don't forget the Quiksilver Airshow is on at South Piha. HT 2150.
East Coast: The little low northeast swell of 1-2 feet comes and goes during the week and tomorrow we are expecting a
little more with a sub tropical Low sitting off to the northeast. Seabreezes this arvo and a soft 1-2 feet. We live in
hope of more swell tomorrow. No wind in the morning, in fact it will probably be a light offshore. HT 1240.
Gisborne; Wairarapa:
Light variable winds with a light northerly this afternoon. There is a small 1-2 feet of easing north swell that should
swing more to the east and pick up a little tomorrow. Northwest winds freshening. We still have a small south swell of
1-2 feet as well. HT 1115.
Taranaki:
The wind is looking like being the spoil sport this weekend again, with a westerly forecast to get quite strong.
Southwest swell 1-2 foot in town and 2-3 with the odd 4 down the coast. Not a lot of hope for the weekend. HT 1455.
Wellington:
West Coast; We have light variable winds, that will go seabreezey and northwest tomorrow. The swell is a small dribbly 1
foot and our only hope is the freshening onshore tomorrow. HT 1455.
South Coast; We have a small south swell this arvo of 1-1.5 feet and the wind is a light southerly. Northerlies are
forecast with the usual old northwest building in strength tomorrow with 30 knots forecast. With this happening there is
not a lot of hope for waves on this coast over the weekend. I hope I'm wrong. HT 1025.
South Island
West Coast:
It is looking all right this afternoon with 2-3 feet of southwest swell. We should see more southwest swell tomorrow or
Sunday. Northwest winds are forecast to develop tomorrow arvo and then back to the southwest. Can't see the winds
getting very strong tomorrow with a big high sitting on top of us. HT 1610.
Kaikoura; Canterbury:
Small south swell of 1-2 feet of south swell up at Kaikoura. The wind is a lightish northerly/northeasterly. We are
relying again on a wind swell in Town for waves this afternoon and tomorrow. Fresh northeast winds this afternoon and a
small 1-1.5 of wind swell. We still have a small south swell lurking around on the other side of 1-2 feet. HT 1700.
Dunedin; Southland:
It is still small this arvo with a fresh northeast wind. Now the forecast is for the wind to go to the southwest and
then northwest tomorrow. Easing south swell of 2-3 feet that should start to rebuild by Sunday. We are also expecting an
increase in the small northeast swell. HT 0805.
