February highlights at Te Papa Opening February with a roar is Te Papa's newest exhibition, Harley-Davidson: 100 Years. See the bikes and hear the stories that created the Harley-Davidson legend. Plus - don't miss floortalks from local Harley enthusiasts. The sensationally popular The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy - The Exhibition is now extended until 30 March. Plus, don't miss the Taiäwhio: continuity and change before it closes on 23 February. Mid-month, come and see hilarious appearances from kiwi icons The Topp Twins, a kapa haka performance by Te Roopu Manaia o Te Arawa, and The Strawberry Clown Show by Wellington's favourite overseas visitor, as part of Te Papa's fifth birthday. This month's Discovery Sunday is Bring-a-Bug day. Kids can bring along that intriguing creepy crawly they've found, and chat with Te Papa's resident insect experts. Exhibitions:

Harley-Davidson: 100 Years Ride on into Te Papa to see the bikes and hear the stories that created the Harley-Davidson legend! See a range of motorcycles from the last 100 years that illustrate the dramatic tale of a backyard company that overcame major obstacles to become a classic American icon. You'll also hear the stories of colourful New Zealand Harley riders. 6 February - 2 June 2003. Adults $7. Children (4-14 years) $4. Family concessions available.

The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy - The Exhibition Immerse yourself in the fantastic world created by Peter Jackson for his epic film trilogy. Get behind the scenes and experience exciting interactives, see actual costumes, armour, and models from the movies, as well as interviews with cast, crew, and special effects experts. You've seen the movies, now experience The Exhibition! SEASON EXTENDED UNTIL 30 MARCH Adults $12. Children (4-14 years) $6.50. Family concessions available.

Taiäwhio: continuity and change Taiäwhio: continuity and change investigates issues that impact on the work of selected Mäori artists. These issues are explored through eight themes containing groups of contemporary work, each of which is anchored by a taonga (treasure). Artists include Darcy Nicholas, Shona Rapira Davies, Fiona Pardington, and Lisa Reihana. Closes 23 February 2003. Free entry.

Pacific Rim: Ann Robinson's Glass An exhibition of over twenty stunning glass works by acclaimed New Zealand artist Ann Robinson. Pieces such as Pacific Bowl and the tree-like Nikau Vases beautifully reflect the gorgeous colours, light, and shapes of New Zealand's natural environment. Until September 2003. The Terrace, Level 6. Free entry.

Aainaa: reflections through Indian Weddings An exhibition created by Te Papa in partnership with New Zealand Indian communities. It explores the wedding ritual to show both traditional and modern experiences of marriage. Until 2004. Free entry.

Tühoe: children of the mist Discover the early stories of the Tühoe iwi (tribe) and their whakapapa (genealogy); learn about Te Urewera, the sacred forest; find out about key figures and events in Tühoe's proud history; and gain an insight into Tühoe today. Until November 2003. Free entry.

Experiencing Turbulence: Art and the weather / Ngä toi ö te rangi In art, the weather can be depicted to symbolise emotions, states of mind, and beliefs. This exhibition brings together a thought-provoking group of works in which well-known artists have used weather in this way. Opens 25 February. Free entry.

Conflict and Reconciliation: Hone Heke Pokai Within five years of signing the Treaty of Waitangi, Hone Heke was leading his warriors against the might of the colonial government. Conflict and Reconciliation: Hone Heke Pokai explores what motivated this champion of his people's rights in the early years of the Treaty partnership. 28 February-31 July 2003. Free entry.

Sunday 2 12 noon & 2pm: 'Hindu Weddings: mystery unveiled' Floortalks by Dr Pushpa Wood in the Aainaa: reflections through Indian Weddings exhibition. The Community Gallery, Level 4. Free entry. (Please gather at the Information Desk, Level 2, five minutes before the floortalk.) 1pm-2pm: Carousel, Celtic band. The Marae, Level 4. Free entry.

Saturday 8 12 noon & 1.30pm: Harley-Davidson floortalks by Cherie Knuckey featuring her amazing bike 'Night Train'. Wellington Foyer, Level 2. Free entry. 1pm-4pm: Take this rare opportunity to explore the Navy frigate HMNZS Canterbury. Berthed alongside Taranaki Street wharf (behind Te Papa). Free entry.

Sunday 9 10am-6pm: Displays of military equipment including an armoured personnel carrier, field artillery, engineer equipment, a field kitchen and more. Te Papa Plaza, Level 1. Free entry. 12 noon & 1.30pm: Harley-Davidson floortalks by Bill Jackson, pre-1920s Harley restoration enthusiast. The Ericsson Zone, Level 3. Exhibition entry costs apply. 1pm-4pm: Take this rare opportunity to explore the Navy frigate HMNZS Canterbury. Berthed alongside Taranaki Street wharf. (behind Te Papa). Free entry.

Monday 10 10am-6pm: Displays of military equipment including an Air Force Iroquois helicopter and crew, an armoured personnel carrier, field artillery, engineer equipment, a field kitchen and more. Te Papa Plaza, Level 1. Free entry. 11.30am-2pm: 'Welcome Home from East Timor Parade'. The New Zealand Defence Force has recently returned from East Timor, New Zealand's biggest military deployment since Korea in the 1950s. Find a good viewing spot as around 1,500 service men and women from the Navy, Army, and Air Force march from Parliament along Lambton Quay to Te Papa, as a thank you to New Zealanders for their support.

Saturday 15 - Happy 5th Birthday, Te Papa! 10am-12 noon: Jack van Leuwen from The Breeze broadcasts live from the Wellington Foyer, Level 2. 11am-4pm: The Topp Twins. Meet Camp Mother and Camp Leader, Ken and Ken, and Brenda and Raelene. Popping up all around Te Papa. Free entry. 11.30am-12 noon & 2pm-2.30pm: Award-winning kapa haka group Te Roopu Manaia o Te Arawa perform. Wellington Foyer, Level 2. Free entry. 12 noon-3pm: Catch the More FM crew broadcasting live from the Wellington Foyer, Level 2. 12.30pm-1.30pm: The Strawberry Clown Show. Wellington Foyer, Level 2. Free entry.

Sunday 23 Taiäwhio: continuity and change closes. 12 noon-3.30pm: Seapa NZ Footbag Nationals Footbag (often called hacky sack) is one of New Zealanders favourite recreational activities. Check out the big tricks competitions and choreographed routines from two-time world champion Ryan Mulroney (USA), Aussie X-games champion, Lynton Stephens (AUS), and multiple NZ National Champion Adrian Dick. Amphitheatre, Level 1. Free entry. 1pm-2pm: Porirua Cook Island Culture Club. Wellington Foyer, Level 2. Free entry. 2pm-5pm: Discovery Sunday: Bring-a-Bug Day. Hey kids! Inspect your insect.
