Hear distinguished McCahon scholar, Gordon H. Brown, discuss the work of fellow artist and friend Colin McCahon. He will
consider how McCahon adapted examples of European modernist art in his early work, drawing on his extensive knowledge of
McCahon's practice and his in-depth understanding of modernist art history and theory. Seats are limited for this free

Colin McCahon:A Question of Faith 8 December 2002 - 9 March 2003
Colin McCahon: A Question of Faith is a major survey exhibition which has seen our leading artist described as the 'Van
Gogh of Australasia', The exhibition, which is free to the public, features 77 works from throughout Colin McCahon's
career. Set out chronologically, it enables visitors to follow McCahon's development from the early figurative styles of
the 1940s to the later abstract works. Works have been drawn from public and private collections in Europe and
Australasia.
Colin McCahon: A Question of Faith is curated and organised by the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam (SMA) with the
organisational support of the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki, New Zealand (AAG). The principal sponsor in New Zealand
is Ernst & Young. The exhibition is generously supported by Creative New Zealand and private patrons in New Zealand and Australia.

TRACE MURDOCH-15XTABLES 8 November-15 December 2002 Trace Murdoch's solo exhibition includes 15 meranti ply tables-one
long and narrow, a cluster of seven tables in three colours and varying dimensions, and seven miniatures in a
wall-mounted cabinet. The life-size tables are enclosed within two large wooden boxes that restrict access to several
viewing slots, forcing viewers to see the tables through controlled vantage points or perspectives.
Trace Murdoch is a local building and furniture designer. His design work includes the hillside Houghton Bay retreat,
Avid Gallery and Logan Brown restaurant. Trace Murdoch*15XTABLES is presented within the 360 programme*a full
perspective on Wellington Art*which is generously sponsored by Designworks.

CONVERSATION PIECES Collaborative Works 20 December 2002-20 January 2003
Conversation Pieces includes 8 new works-the fruit of collaborations between 19 artists and designers. Combining, for
example, sculpture and architecture, dance and film, painting and poetry, this group exhibition celebrates the sharing
of ideas across different mediums and artforms.
