December & January highlights@Te Papa This summer, be among the first people in the world to see The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy - The Exhibition. It has been developed by Te Papa in exclusive partnership with New Line Cinema. Te Papa is its only New Zealand venue, so catch it before it leaves our shores to tour the globe.Enter a flame-filled chamber to see the One Ring. Examine miniature models used in the movie trilogy, including Frodo's vision of ruined Hobbiton, the Tower of Orthanc, and Sauron's Castle. Get close up to actual props, costumes, and jewellery, and admire the incredible crafting that went into them. You can also watch revealing interviews with cast and crew, and learn about the trilogy's amazing special effects. (Children - try making yourselves bigger than your parents!) This exhibition runs at the same time as Te Papa turns on the festivities for Christmas and New Year. Live choral music will fill the air, free performers, including the renowned Soweto String Ensemble, will delight young and old alike, and holiday activities in the Discovery Centres will keep kids busy.
