Canadian singer Bryan Adams headlines an impressive list of performers coming to the North Harbour Stadium in what is
shaping up as a hot summer of '03 at the multi-purpose venue.
Others include Ali Lauiti'iti, Andre Adams and Doug Howlett as league's NZ Warriors, cricket's Auckland Aces and Blues
Super-12 rugby line-ups test out the new surface at Albany over the next four months.
North Harbour Stadium general manager, Wayne Scurrah, today announced the upcoming list of events which will be
headlined by international rock star Bryan Adams whose one and only New Zealand gig will be at Albany on January 26.
"We're delighted to confirm Bryan Adams will be performing at North Harbour Stadium early in the New Year," Mr Scurrah
says. "With a career spanning over 25 years and worldwide album sales exceeding 60 million copies, his show promises to
be an unforgettable evening."
The venue has hosted such acts as The Corrs and Cliff Richard together with grand-scale outdoor opera in recent years.
"We're putting the versatility of our venue to the test this summer with soccer, league, cricket and rugby all signed up
to deliver outstanding entertainment here in North Shore City," Mr Scurrah says.
The highlights include: * On December 19, NZ Under-20 soccer side will face Australia in a critical world
youth qualifying match. * In mid January, cricket's Auckland Aces will play Otago in a four-day State Championship
game followed the one-day State Shield match against Central Districts on January 22. The Aces' line-up includes Black
Caps Andre Adams and Kyle Mills. * Tickets for Bryan Adams' one night only show on January 26 are on sale from
November 22 from Ticketek, (09) 307 5000. Private suites and corporate hospitality can be arranged by calling North
Harbour Stadium direct on (09) 414 0150. * The Warriors' first game on New Zealand turf in 2003 will be at North
Harbour Stadium's freshly laid surface on February 22. This pre- season 'friendly' sees the 2002 NRL Grand-Finalist
face off with its semi-final victim, the Cronulla Sharks. The sides' respective development squads will clash in
the curtain raiser at 3pm. * The Auckland Blues' first home game for 2003 is the dream encounter with the defending,
four-times Super 12 champion Crusaders on March 8, at 7.30pm. * NZ's national soccer side plays Iran in the
warm-up to the Confederations Cup in late March. Iran will play the All Whites in Iran and travel to Albany for
the return match on either March 28 or 29. * Soccer again plays a major part of the Stadium's events calendar with the
Southern Trust National League final in June and the Bluebird Chatham Cup in August. * Rugby's NPC
calendar is not yet confirmed although Harbour will face defending champion Auckland and Ranfurly Shield holder
Canterbury plus Waikato, Taranaki and Northland at Albany this coming season.
Wayne Scurrah says the Stadium's Harbour Function Centre has increased its conference and function business
significantly in the past year.
"Curtains in all rooms have assisted in gaining new business, and keeping existing clients. Awnings, new carpet on
stairwells, and painting are only some of the improvements that patrons will see early in the New Year," he says.
The Stadium has a host of upgrades scheduled in 2003. The main Stadium field has already undergone a massive lift
including perimeter drainage. Domains 3 and 4 will receive a full face-lift including the construction of changing
rooms, toilets and field lighting.
New lounges will be available to the public from mid-2003.
"We would love to see the Stadium filled to capacity for all the major events scheduled. The more the merrier as crowd
atmosphere plays a huge part in player performance," says Wayne Scurrah, who encourages people to get in behind their
favourite teams and players.
"The Warriors game next February is a fantastic opportunity for us to really get behind this champion team. We were all
extremely proud of their achievements this past year when they took on the Australians and showed we could foot it with
the best. The bigger the crowd the better and we want to fill North Harbour Stadium so we've discounted ticket prices
for families and we're putting on a host of activities for the kids to make this a fun day out for everyone."
