Wellingtonian mother wins Powerade Trainer of the Year title
Mish McCormack of Wellington has been named the Powerade Trainer of the Year. The competition aimed at finding and rewarding the country’s most inspiring, dedicated and effective trainer, selected Mish out of the ten finalists from a total of over 250 personal trainers from around New Zealand.
Judges for The Powerade Trainer of the Year - Sean Fitzpatrick, former All Black Captain, Nikki Hart, Sports Dietitian and Richard Beddie, President, Fitness New Zealand - had the difficult task of selecting the best of the best.
“All of the finalists are doing great things and are helping real people with real problems. The quality of personal trainers continues to improve in New Zealand and this is shown with the calibre of these top 10 trainers.” said Richard Beddie, President, Fitness New Zealand.
Nikki Hart, Sports Dietitian explains why Mish was chosen as the winner. “Mish has demonstrated excellent knowledge of her clients’ needs as well a passion for her occupation. She also understands her role as a personal trainer and integrates that with advice from other health and fitness professionals.”
Mish is a 27-year-old mother of one-year-old, Olivia, and has been personal training for nine years. She believes in being a role model for her clients and leading by example. It isn’t a hard task for Mish who was a stuntwoman in Xena Warrior Princess and has a personal interest in body sculpting.
“This is a fabulous win and I am really happy that Powerade are recognising the role of personal trainers in New Zealand. I love my job and it makes it even better to think that I have won $4,000 and one of my clients has won $1,000 worth of personal training,” said Mish McCormack, Powerade Trainer of the Year.
The fitness industry has grown considerably in recent years with an estimated 1,000 personal trainers in New Zealand compared to only a few hundred in 1992. Powerade spokesperson, Mike Shepherd states “Having a personal trainer is important for many New Zealanders, and we feel that it is time to commend them for their dedication, friendships and interest in helping people feel healthier and better about themselves.”
