War Of Words Already Underway!!!!

Published: Wed 6 Nov 2002 08:13 AM
The Great Debate-‘There’s no way those guys are better than us’ will be held in Auckland in aid of the Starship Foundation (7pm Thursday 28th November), Wellington, in aid of skylight (12noon Friday 29th November) and Christchurch in aid of the IHC and The Rugby Foundation of New Zealand Inc. (7pm Friday 29th November).
Lining up for New Zealand are former All Blacks, Stu Wilson and Andy Haden and well known raconteur and patron of the IHC Christchurch, Jim Hopkins. The Australian team will comprise former Wallabies Phil Kearns, David Campese and Peter FitzSimons.
With only a month to go before what will undoubtedly be the most colourful events on this year’s Rugby calendar, the war of words has already begun. Here’s a taste…
“I’m looking forward to putting on the black jersey again”, said Andy Haden “And with Stu and Jim taking position beside me, we will send those skippys back across the Tasman with their tails between their legs!”.
"Andy and Stu used to send us back home but now we can show why they want to join us as we continue our winning streak", David Campese replied.
And then came… “ There is a very good reason our mantlepiece does groaneth with the weight of silverware upon it, and it is the same reason we will whip the uppity Kiwis motherless in the coming debate ... and yet modesty forbids me to spell that out”, said Peter FitzSimons.
“Fire guts Fitzy and his Library. Both of poor Peter's books were destroyed in the blaze… and the tragedy is he hadn't finished colouring in one of them", " said Andy Haden, when offering his sympathy upon hearing the news that fire had ripped through FitzSimons’ house and gutted his library.
"I'm looking forward to coming across the ditch to see if they can stuff up the debate as well as they stuffed up the World cup. Haden grunting isn't going to win any argument!", Phil Kearns.
And, Andy Haden’s retort: “ What delight to see that someone has written a reply for 'Fearless Phil'...I wonder who read it to him?”.
Colin ‘Pinetree’ Meads will judge, MC is Paul Holmes and Angela Ayers will perform the National Anthem.
