Only One Match Of Flight Four Completed
The Race Committee was able to complete this afternoon only one of the four matches of Flight 4 of Round Robin Two. As already previuosly announced, the matches between Luna Rossa and Alinghi and between Le Defi and GBR Challenge, part of Flight 4, have been postponed to a further date due to technical failures on the Italian and French boats. Later in the afternoon another scheduled match was postponed due to technical failure on Stars & Stripes that was not fixable in time for the 4pm start. Oracle, who was supposed to race against Stars & Stripes, filed a protest.
Matteo Plazzi, navigator on Luna Rossa, comments on today's racing: "We had a couple of technical problems on our boat today. At the first tack we broke the starboard pedestal of the primary winch. Then, on the downwind leg, we broke the transmission between the pedestal and the secondary winch. We could not make the necessary repairs on board and the Committee granted us the postponement. However, these breakages are easy to fix on shore with enough time for the glue to cure. Unfortunately, at times the boats suffer some damages and there is no reason to start a race if the boat is not 100% competitive".
Flights 5 and 6 of Round Robin Two will be sailed tomorrow, weather permitting. The matches of the day, broadcasted live on TV, will be: OneWorld USA 67 versus Stars & Stripes USA 66 and One World versus Oracle BMW Racing USA 76.
