Svelte Hemisphere Play Cathedral Square
FREE Lunchtime Concert, Friday 25th October 2002, 12.15pm to 1.15pm, Cathedral Square.
A fusion of traditional Maori waiata with contemporary world music rhythms,
Svelte Hemisphere, promise an experience of traditional Maori music, as you have never encountered before.
This Friday in Cathedral Square Svelte Hemisphere, a three piece original band, will blend the music of their tupuna with uplifting beats from today’s progressive sounds.
Donna Tairakena, Rick Tait, and Wally Tairakena formed Svelte Hemisphere six years ago, and have had audiences grooving at festivals from the North to the South with personal highlights being, the Nile River Festival on the West Coast, the Whangarei Jazz and Blues Festival, the Whitecliffs Folk Festival and Womad.
More recently Svelte Hemisphere have been delighting diners at the Mainstreet Café with their funky sound and with the release of their C.D “Svelte”, their tunes are now available to takeaway.
