Italian Match Once Again Postponed
The long awaited all Italian match between Luna Rossa ITA 74 and Mascalzone Latino ITA 72, postponed already three times during Round Robin One, was once again abandoned today due to high winds. A strong south-southwesterly breeze of 20 plus knots, gusting over 30, has been steadily blowing on the Hauraki Gulf since early morning.
The Race Committee was forced to delay the start, scheduled for 12:15, due to the strong breeze. According to the Louis Vuitton Cup Race Conditions the Race Committee cannot start a match if the wind is blowing over 19 knots for five consecutive minutes. Both Italian crews waited on the race course until 15:10, when the Race Committee decided to abandon all racing for the day. Later in the afternoon the Race Commitee announced that tomorrow teams will race Flight One of the Second Round Robin. The start will be given at 10:30 with all four scheduled races on the regular long course. In the afternoon the Committee will try to race the remaining match between Luna Rossa and Mascalzone Latino, possibly on a short course.
WEATHER CONDITIONS TODAY
Wind from SW 18-23 knots. Sunny with cloudy periods. Occasional light showers.
WEATHER FORECAST FOR TOMORROW
Wind from S 5 knots becoming 12-15 knots. Mainly sunny.
