Sarkies & Sarkies Script to Screen - Masterclass

AN INTENSIVE MASTERCLASS
FOR TOMORROW’S FEATURE FILM MAKERS
BY THE MAKERS OF “SCARFIES”
“An advanced course for people who will direct or write a feature film in the next five years.”
Recognising that film-making is a collaborative process we have brought together one of New Zealand’s most successful partnerships. Creators of the kiwi classic “Scarfies”, Robert and Duncan Sarkies are proven storytellers who have established a reputation for innovation and excellence in their work. From script to screen students will learn tools and techniques that will help them find their own distinctive voice as a film-maker. The course is filled with practical exercises designed to inspire creativity and help students to raise the bar with their own material, however this is not a ‘learn how to use film equipment’ kind of course.
There are two courses: Wellington, 13 January - 1 February; Auckland 10 February - 1 March (Sundays off) with 10 - 16 students in each course.

“I wanted to devise a course that would have inspired me when the dream of making my first feature film seemed a distant reality. Like many on the cusp of making a film, I looked at overseas options for training at an advanced level. Our aim is to create a New Zealand-based course which rivals the best short courses in the world.”
- Robert Sarkies
“Initiative and drive are everything in this industry – I have always been inspired by people who just get out there and do it. We think a short course encourages the sort of people who have that do-it-yourself attitude, but are seeking tuition at an expert level. As working film makers we want to pass on knowledge in a smaller intensive format that will kick start a film makers year into action.”
- Duncan Sarkies
“Duncan Sarkies brings the wisdom of experience and the energy of a constantly enquiring mind to his work as a teacher, making a fresh and invigorating cocktail. He is an excellent teacher.”
- Miranda Harcourt, Teacher, Toi Whakaari New Zealand Drama School
“Robert Sarkies gave an inspiring workshop for the Screen Directors Guild of New Zealand this year. Robert demonstrated the purpose of rehearsals, script analysis, screen breakdowns and offered many other valuable insights into the creative process of directing.”
- Shonagh Lindsay, Executive Officer, Screen Directors Guild of New Zealand
