Greenpeace activists in inflatables protest Areva’s involvement in the Cup
For the second day on Friday Oct 4, Greenpeace handed information about Areva, anti-nuclear pennants and nuke-free NZ
biscuits to the spectator boats watching the Louis Vuitton Cup.
Two Greenpeace inflatables moved amongst the spectator and media boats informing about Areva’s true activities and why
Greenpeace is opposed to their involvement in the Cup.
“New Zealanders need to know what Areva’s real day-job is. This company discharges nuclear waste into the ocean on a
daily basis; is intimately connected to the development of France's nuclear weapons and has shipped nuclear materials
through our region last year despite our Government’s opposition."
Greenpeace says it is easy to be pro-America’s Cup and still be anti-nuclear.
“All you have to do is fly anti-nuclear pennant on your boat while watching the race and let the world know that New
Zealand is proudly nuclear-free.”
Greenpeace has challenged Areva to a public debate, which Areva has agreed to in a meeting with Greenpeace late last
week. This will occur when Areva returns in early November.
