STARS TURN OUT FOR SOLD OUT TRIBUTE
Tickets have sold out for tomorrow night’s PINETREE, a tribute and testmonial dinner honouring legendary All Black Colin ‘Pinetree’ Meads, DCNZM MBE, the IHC and The Rugby Union Foundation of New Zealand Incorporated. Friends, footballers and fans will come together for this black tie fundraising event, tomorrow night, Thursday, 5th September at The Sheraton Auckland Hotel & Towers, 83 Symonds St, Auckland commencing at 7pm.
Jim Hopkins will be Master of Ceremonies for the night, Sir Howard Morrison will perform the national anthem, and guests will delight in entertainment by Mike King. An impressive contingent of All Black greats will attend PINETREE, including Sir Brian Lochore, Fred Allen, Malcolm Dick, Sean Fitzpatrick, John Graham, Andy Haden, Jock Hobbs, Doug Howlett, Ian Jones, Ian Kirkpatrick, Chris Laidlaw, Kees Meeuws, Waka Nathan, Tane Norton, Mark Robinson, Wayne Shelford, Tony Steel, Pat Walsh, Gary Whetton and Bryan Williams. Other special guests will include Lana Cockroft, Charlotte Dawson, and Miss World New Zealand 2002 Amie Hewitt.
Fundraising on the night will feature an auction of memorabilia including:
- A US presidential seal and signed poster of Bill Clinton.
- Rolling Stones autographed guitar
- Cricket Bat signed by the 1949 New Zealand and 1948 Australian teams.
- Sealed case of 1995 Grange Hermitage
- Limited Edition biography of Colin Meads - Book Number 1 in a limited print run of 133, signed by Colin Meads
- Photographs and autographs of Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948) and Nelson Mandela
- New Zealand Prime Minister’s signatures from 1934-2002.
From his 1957 debut for the All Blacks, Colin Meads was a fixture, hardly missing a test until his finale in 1971. In all, Meads appeared in 133 matches for the All Blacks, including 55 test matches, and some 360 first class matches. Meads was deservedly named Player of the Century at the NZRFU Awards dinner in 1999.
