National One Design Competition Launched
The Keel Boating and Off Shore Racing Committee (KORC) are running a National One-Design competition in association with Yachting New Zealand. Designers are invited to submit an entry for a Monohull Keel Boat which adheres to a specific list of criteria.
There have been very few competitive racing oriented keelboats built for NZ based owners, and our keelboat racing fleets are ageing and rapidly falling behind the current international standards. KORC has taken the initiative to give some direction and growth to the New Zealand keelboat scene by promoting the concept of a National One Design Keelboat Class.
The concept of a design competition has been used in the past to develop classes such as the K class. It is hoped that we will see the development of a new modern, and innovative class that will have the impact and longevity of the Stewart 34 class but at a national rather than just a regional level.
For further information on the background of the competition, along with rules and entry details visit the Yachting New Zealand website: http://www.yachtingnz.org.nz/135_1/135_1_top.cfm?pageid=346=21
Entries must be received by 1700hrs NZST, Friday 22 November 2002
The winner will be announced by 28th January 2003
