Cold Power has announced its sponsorship of the first international ice hockey series of the year, featuring the New
Zealand Men’s Ice Hockey team. The Cold Power International Ice Hockey Series will see the Ice Blacks battle it out
against the Canadian Moose, in the best of four games.
The Cold Power International Ice Hockey Series gives Kiwi fans a rare chance to see their national team in full action.
The Ice Blacks spend most of the year playing overseas in the International Ice Hockey Federation’s World Championship
Programme.
Graeme Glass, President of the New Zealand Ice Hockey Federation, says that with a win in last year’s New Zealand series
against the Moose, he is confident that the Ice Blacks will rise to the challenge. “The Moose always put up strong
competition, but this year the Ice Blacks are a lot stronger so we are hoping for a series win this time around.”
The first game of the Cold Power International Ice Hockey Series will be held on Auckland on 6 July, with the second
game being played in Christchurch. The third and fourth games will be played in Queenstown as part of the Lindauer
Queenstown Winter Festival programme.
The Cold Power International Ice Hockey Series will be the Canadian Moose’s fourth time in New Zealand. The Moose is
Canada’s premier touring team and is often referred to as the Harlem Globe Trotters of Ice Hockey.
The Cold Power series is the Ice Blacks only international series being played in New Zealand this year. However there
are plans for several international tests next year against Turkey and Luxembourg, who the Ice Blacks have beaten in
previous matches.
Mary Beth Robles, General Manager of Colgate – Palmolive New Zealand, the makers of Cold Power, says the company is
proud to be the power behind the Ice Blacks series. “The Ice Blacks and Cold Power make for a perfect partnership as
both are ‘experts in the cold”, she says. “The series is sure to provide lots of exciting action packed fun for ice
hockey fans and novices alike.”
Colgate-Palmolive New Zealand is the wholly owned subsidiary of the New York listed Colgate-Palmolive Company. It is a
