The TAB is giving customers the chance to win back their money on a First Goal Scorer bet in this weekend’s Soccer World Cup final between Brazil and Germany.
It’s called the No Goal Bonus ¡Kif the score after 90 minutes normal playing time is 0-0, then the TAB will refund all First Goal Scorer bets.
TAB soccer bookie Kevin Romyn said there was a chance of the score being nil-all after 90 minutes: “While everyone will be hoping for a high-scoring thriller, the trend in recent World Cup games has been for tight matches, and the Germans have only conceded one goal in this tournament.”
Germany beat South Korea 1-0 in their World Cup semi and Brazil beat Turkey 1-0 in theirs. In the quarters, Spain and South Korea were 0-0 after 90 minutes, as were Senegal and Turkey.
Brazilian superstar Ronaldo is the $4.00 favourite to score the first goal, with Rivaldo at $5.50. German striker Miloslav Klose is paying $7.00.
- Total turnover on the World Cup has topped $20 million, double the TAB’s initial estimates. Turnover on the Brazil v Turkey game last night was $1.3 million, the second highest turnover on a single sports event. The record is the $2.6 million bet on David Tua’s heavyweight boxing championship bid against Lennox Lewis in November 2000.
- Note: First Goal Scorer bets are only valid for 90 minutes, as per international betting practice.
