Don't forget that Pine will be launching their debut album Longplayer this Saturday 29 June at the Kings Arms with a bit
of help from friends and family in Fang and Minuit - both of whom will be showcasing new material from upcoming
releases.

or on Squeeze in a couple of weeks. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Minuit are an electronic/live trio from the
south Island with beautiful vocals. They also feature Aaron from Pine's brother Ryan, who was involved in recording
Longplayer. Pine will be releasing their debut album called Longplayer in New Zealand on July the 4th 2001, available
though FMR. Arch Hill have also recently formed distribution relationships with Didgeridoo Records in Australia (Ed
Kuepper and other Aussie Indie/Rock) and Hot Records in the UK/Europe (currently the third largest independent
distributor in the UK). Pine’s Longplayer will be the first Arch Hill release through these outlets in August/September
2002.
A short version of the Longplayer road
Pine’s first steps were taken by combining the classic New Zealand music formula of South Island bedrooms and four track
recorders. This allowed buddies Aaron and Stephen to self-release two ‘best-selling-among-their-parents’ EPs. Successful
though this was, the two knew they were destined for bigger things, and thus, made the move from Nelson to Christchurch
- as well as expanding their lineup. After failed attempts with friends who "couldn’t keep time and a keyboard player
whose only experience was he could type" they were joined by Hannah (married to Aaron) who could actually play – and as
it turns out – sing as well.
Shortly after, one of Pine’s four-track experiments made it’s way into the gleaming Auckland Arch Hill towers, and, in
an unprecedented move, the label signed the band up immediately. Their first EP, named after the title track "Speeding",
was released in May 2001 to critical acclaim; they also made a video for Speeding and got plenty of b-net play. While
they were at it, they toured New Zealand with Neil Finn, Goodshirt and fellow Arch Hillers Fang.
Longplayer sees the stripped back Christchurch trio find further development on debut EP Speeding. The simple 1960s
flavored melodies and understated grooves just keep getting better. Less is more. The album itself has thirteen tracks,
including the b-net favorites "Make Way for the King" and the latest single "Beaten Again" (which also has a video).
Longplayer was put together with the help of studio whizz Nick Abbott (Pluto, Goldenhorse, Meterman). Although Stephen
takes the main responsibility, all three sing on the album. Aaron plays guitar, Hannah keyboards, and Stephen drums.
Early prototype experiments from the Arch Hill art and design department (managed by Aaron) may take CD packaging to new
