He’s Coming Back!
Snoopy The Kiwi Confirmed For Russell’s Environmental Expo
Snoopy, the one-legged Kiwi that featured on the ‘Holmes Show’ last week is to be guest star at Russell’s Environmental Expo in August.
“He was a great hit last year,” said Jacqui Knight, organiser of last year’s Expo, “and we’re thrilled to have him coming back.”
Snoopy accompanies Robert Webb, the man behind the Native Bird Recovery Centre in Whangarei to events such as the Environmental Expo advancing the work of Kiwi Recovery programmes, Operation Nest Egg, and the Native Bird Recovery Centre. The centre, established in 1994, handles over l000 injured birds each year, most of which are nursed back to health and released back into the wild.
“Nearly 60% of endemic and native birds brought to us alive are successfully released again,” said Robert. “Snoopy had lost one of his legs in a trap and wouldn’t have made it out there. But he’s now a very valuable member of our team, and part of our family.”
They also have a high success hatching Kiwi eggs. A display of their work, including photographs and guest star Snoopy will be at the Environmental Expo along with a wide range of environmental products and displays.
“More exhibitors are welcome,” said Knight. “We have more covered space available this year and there will be all sorts of products available on the day.”
The Environmental Expo will be at Russell on Saturday and Sunday 3 and 4 August. **
