After a highly successful international dance career, kiwi dancer Sarah - Jayne
Howard has returned home.
In 1995 Howard, one of New Zealand’s young stars, was snapped up by Australian dance company, Meryl Tankard Dance
Theatre. This was during her third year of training at The New Zealand School of Dance.
She remained with the company as principal dancer till its demise in 1999. Since then Howard has worked with Chunky Move
and many independent dance companies in Australia.
Howard is now recognised on the international stage. She was nominated in a critics’ survey as one of Australia’s most
outstanding dancers, and this year was selected as one of three finalists, chosen worldwide, for the Rolex Mentor and
Protégé Arts Initiative held in Frankfurt.
New Zealand audiences have most recently seen Howard perform in Douglas Wright's New Zealand Festival of Arts commission
'Inland'.
Howard is currently in rehearsals for Raewyn Hill's next new work WHITE. WHITE is Hill’s second full length work and
follows on from the highly successful premiere of her solo work, When Loves Comes Calling, held in Christchurch late
last year. This new dance work featuring both acclaimed dancers is eagerly anticipated.
WHITE will premiere at Bats Theatre, Wellington, 25th July 2002, 7.30pm. The season runs until August 4.
