Basketball New Zealand (BBNZ) has announced that it will partner with Burger King New Zealand in a sponsorship deal for
the country's premier basketball team, the Tall Blacks.
The deal is the most comprehensive sponsorship initiative ever developed for the Tall Blacks (to be known as the Burger
King Tall Blacks) and follows the recent announcement of Burger King's sponsorship of the NBL Championship.
BBNZ CEO, David Crocker, says that Burger King's support will help provide the Tall Blacks with the resources needed to
elevate basketball to a new level in New Zealand. "This is excellent news for the Tall Blacks and we're delighted to
have gained the support of Burger King. As well as providing us with the means to support the growth of basketball, it's
also a great match - we mirror Burger King's own values of passion, pride and performance. We're looking forward to what
will be a mutually successful partnership. "
The new sponsorship complements Burger King's existing sponsorship of the NBL national competition.
Dennis Jones, Managing Director, Burger King New Zealand says one of the greatest differences this sponsorship makes is
that it allows selected Burger King Tall Blacks international test matches to be televised, bringing the game to a wider
audience around New Zealand.
Says Dennis Jones, "Burger King has been involved with basketball in New Zealand for some years now and this sponsorship
deal, in many ways, is a natural progression for us. Our involvement with the Burger King Tall Blacks is the next step
in our commitment to the growth of basketball in New Zealand."
The Burger King Tall Blacks leave for China on 29th May where they will play three games in what is regarded as the most
important international programme in New Zealand basketball history.
