Second University Cricket Competition In 2002

Published: Wed 17 Apr 2002 12:32 AM
The University Sport NZ Executive agreed at its meeting on 13 April that a second New Zealand Universities Cricket Competition should be held in November of 2002 following the successful Easter event last month.
The Easter event was the first competition since 1998. Otago won.
“The NZU Cricket Council have shown they can run a good event, so they will be supported to run more”, said USNZ President Darel Hall.
“USNZ is very keen to support sports councils and develop virtuous cycles of success and support – support leading to success leading to further support, and so on.
“The plan is to annualise the event around November after this year’s event. The Executive wants to encourage other members to consider putting teams in the competition, as the November competition will count for points towards the Games Shield in 2003.
