One of the favourites in the East Coast Regional Final of the 2002 WRIGHTSON AGMARDT YOUNG FARMER CONTEST, Kynan
Thomsen, has been getting plenty of help from his local YFC clubmates in the lead-up to the Regional Final.
East Coast Regional Convenor Kate Taylor says Thomsen (representing Hawkes Bay) has been given mini-quizzes on a wide
variety of topics during club meetings to assist in his build up for the Regional Final, being held at Waipukurau on
Saturday, April 13.
However, the seven other Regional Finalists are known to be hitting the books pretty hard, and Thomsen faces some fairly
tough competition from the likes of Paul McGill, from Wairarapa.
While McGill, Thomsen and last year’s Regional Final runner-up Justin Read are the favourites for this year’s event,
Kate Taylor says it will be a highly competitive, closely fought event.
“Kynan is putting 100 per cent into this event, after missing last year to let his brother Callum focus on the Regional
Final, while Justin, Paul and the rest of the field are working really hard to increase their knowledge base.”
Making his last attempt at winning the Regional Final before he passes the upper age limit of 30, national YFC president
Pat Baucke will put everything into the competition.
Neil Filer, third at Regional Final two years ago, is back representing the Tararua District this year, while Doug Dolan
is expected to push for a top three placing and Wairarapa’s Warren Chappell is sure to excel in the practical section.
