HOLLYWOOD, CA - The movie industry may need to consider a new award category for motion pictures that have the "best
fans." If there were such an award this year, it would undoubtedly go to the fans of Peter Jackson's The Lord of The
Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring.
Jackson's epic adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's literary classic leads all films with 13 Academy Award nominations and
fans of the film will be celebrating in the best of Hollywood traditions - the awards party.
TheOneRing.net and Sideshow / Weta Collectibles are hosting an Oscar party on Sunday, March 24th, the night of the
event, at the Hollywood Athletic Club. The party will celebrate the film's nominations, which include Best Picture, a
Best Director nod for Jackson and Best Supporting Actor for Sir Ian McKellen (who landed that same mark this week with
the Screen Actor's Guild). It is also a celebration of the unique accomplishments of Richard Taylor, the first
technician in film history to be nominated for 3 Academy Awards on the same film.
The event dubbed "One Party to Rule Them All" gives fans from around the country a place to meet and celebrate the
film’s artistic and critical success. Party tickets are on sale at TheOneRing.net® where an early sellout is
anticipated. The party will also help to raise funds for the not-for-profit fan site, TheOneRing.net® (TORn) to purchase
a new server and handle greater bandwidth. The new server will allow TORn to continue to meet the demand of its 9
million average monthly hits.
The black tie affair is sponsored by Electronic Arts, the official Lord of The Rings fan club/Decipher, Houghton Mifflin
and Royal Selangor Pewter. Sponsors are donating official movie merchandise to be raffled off during commercial breaks
during the awards ceremony broadcast. A silent auction will also be held.
Jackson's involvement with the fans is long-standing. He offered charter members of the official fan club the
unprecedented honor of having their name on the credits of the DVD version of the film, scheduled for release later in
2002. There are unconfirmed rumors that some involved in the production of the New Line Cinema film will be stopping by
what some are calling the "official" fan party.
