"Passion and Heart Explored in Fringe Premiere"
Grae Burton Presents two one act plays by hot new talents Peter Larsen and Sally Anne that explore burning desire, love at first sight, love requited and unrequited, familial love and the fires of the heart.
Helium, written by Auckland based stage and screen writer Peter Larsen exposes the last meeting of estranged lovers during the 1998 Auckland blackouts. Throughout the story love and insanity wrestle for intimacy with tragic results. Larsen states-
"The elements of Helium take on a resonance that veers away from the naturalistic, into a poetic realism. It is a simple, bittersweet story whose characters are complex in their dealing with a situation where they are ultimately powerless."
Adoption is the theme of Made in Transit, written by Nelson based theatre practitioner Sally Anne is based on the true story of how she was conceived and the discovery of her birth mother. The action makes a sharp shift from present day New Zealand back to 1968, the era of free love, on a cruise ship enroute to England.
She says-
"I never thought the day would come when I would perform my birth and the moment of my conception. The effect is hilarious and heartfelt resulting in the hardest decision my birth mother ever had to make. I hope that in some way this story helps bring other adoptee families to know they were brought into this world out of love."
Both plays will premier at Fringe NZ performing at No. 5 Cable Street, February 25 – March 2 inclusive at 9:30pm.
