Winter Olympics and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
AUCKLAND, Feb. 8/Medianet International-AsiaNet/-- The Winter Olympics begin this weekend in Salt Lake City and already the international media spotlight is shining on the host city.
As a result of the close historical and cultural links between the state of Utah and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (members of which are sometimes called "Mormons"), some of that spotlight is also falling on the Church.
Whilst the Church's headquarters are in Salt Lake City, we have a substantial presence in New Zealand and the South Pacific. Over the next two weeks your readers, listeners or viewers may appreciate comment from a local Church representative. If you feel that this will be the case, Church spokesperson Ms Tina Dil will be available for interviews during the Games period.
Tina is conversant with many relevant issues and can answer questions relating to culture, history, beliefs or other more specific matters concerning the Church in New Zealand and worldwide.
Best wishes, Warwick Lyes, Media Director The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
