NZSA appoints Auckland writer as its new Executive Director
Auckland – February 4, 2002 – President William Taylor announced today that the New Zealand Society of Authors (PEN New Zealand Incorporated) [NZSA (PEN Inc)] has appointed Auckland writer, Elizabeth Allen to the newly created position of Executive Director. She will take up the position on February 4th 2002.
Ms Allen has extensive experience in arts administration in Canada where she was on the Executive of the Saskatchewan Writers Guild and Chairperson of the Cultural Advisory Committee to the Western Canadian Lottery Foundation.
Since returning to New Zealand she has been involved in newspaper management and the commercial publishing industry in the role of sales and marketing.
She is a member of NZSA (PEN Inc) and represents them on the arts advocates auckland executive and the CNZ advocacy group.
“I have a passionate interest in the arts and feel it is important for writers to have a strong voice in New Zealand. I look forward to promoting the interests of writers to the wider arts community,” Ms Allen says.
“This is an important move for NZSA (PEN Inc),” says William Taylor.
“With a growing membership and increasing demands on the Executive, we need to have a full time Executive Director to manage the Society’s affairs,” he adds.
Ms Allen replaces part-time Executive Secretary, Jenny Jones, who resigned last year to pursue her writing career.
