hot fun in the summertime... coming to a town near you!
Fat Freddy's Drop in association with Creative New Zealand presents the
Joe Dukie + Fitchie 2002 TOUR
Joe Dukie and Fitchie play the sweltering summer sounds of dub, soul, funk and future jams in a town near you this season. These two talents are the alter ego¹s of Wellington¹s DJ MU and vocalist Dallas Tamaira, gaining momentum currently with their big band Fat Freddy¹s drop, who have recently rocked the house in Auckland at The Grey Lynn Park Festival and as a part of the Three Piece Suit mini tour which played to a sell out crowd in Wellington.
Dallas and Mu (Joe Dukie and Fitchie) met 5 years ago and have been collaborating ever since. In 1999 Dallas released his debut EP which was well received by local music media. The four tracks on the ŒBetter Than Change¹ EP are a taste of their broad musical spectrum, travelling from soul and blues, to drum Œn bass, house, dance and dub flavours.
"Debut offering by Wellington nouveau soul bloke impresses for his liquid melodies and languid moods which swing gently from jazz club to expansive dubscape." - NZ Herald
Their latest EP Midnight Marauders is a limited vinyl release in New Zealand mastered by George Horn from Fantasy Studios(masters most of the Ubiquity label) in San Francisco, and is due for limited release in February, but title track will be available on the Earwork Compilation being released by Capital Records this Christmas.
The pair have previously been key players with Crackhead Experience, Bongmaster and TrinityRoots. Last year they played on the main stage at the Gathering converting the trance-loving masses to a set of soulful 2-step and skanking rhythms. This year their tour starts with another monumental Gathering set and continues down and up the line at sunshine festivals all over New Zealand, from Akaroa to Auckland and some of the best beaches and spots in between.
Joe Dukie and Fitchie will be providing a soundtrack to summer full of laid back and honeyed beats spanning the musical spectrum from dub and blues to drum and bass and soul. Fat Freddy¹s will join Joe Dukie and Fitchie in Raglan, Wellington and Waiuku, The Fat Freddy¹s album "Live at The Matterhorn" is available now in all good music stores.
