THE MUSIC EVENT OF 2002 AT THE BOWL
Mr Paul Dainty, of Dainty Consolidated Entertainment, announced today that AMERICA has agreed to perform an EXTRA New
Zealand concert for their New Plymouth fans.
In a joint promotion with the Bowl of Brooklands Trust AMERICA will perform at the newly refurbished TSB Bowl of
Brooklands for One Night Only on Saturday 23 February. Tickets go on sale at 9am Monday 10 December through Ticketek and
selected Record Stores in Stratford, Hawera & Wanganui.
AMERICA’S other New Zealand concerts are at the WestpacTrust Centre In Christchurch for One Night Only, Saturday 16
February and performing in Auckland at The Civic Theatre on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 February, tickets are now on sale
through Ticketek.
After more than 30 years together, AMERICA continues to reach an International audience and win new fans. It’s been
quite a ride for Beckley and Bunnell since their teenaged days at the West Ruislip air base. “We’ve grown up in a world
of showbiz, seen styles change, seen technology change,” Dewey muses, “but basically Gerry and I have stayed very much
the same. We still have those standards in songwriting that we were hoping to establish. We’ve lived pretty full lives
and managed to hold on to some sanity, although the world seems crazier every day.”
That nameless horse has taken these two old friends a long, long way.
The world discovered AMERICA in 1972, when a nameless horse began its gallop across the international airwaves. If this
sounds like some sort of fairy tale, it seemed like one for the three young musicians who harmonized their way to the
top of the charts on the strength of that song. “A Horse With No Name” made the band called America famous, paving the
way for such further hits as “I Need You,” “Ventura Highway,” “Tin Man, ” “Lonely People” and “Sister Golden Hair.” For
much of the ‘70s, band members Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell and Dan Peek were riding high, thanks to a sound that mixed
rock, pop and folk elements to appealing effect.
Warner Music released ‘The Definitive America’ in New Zealand in July this year and the album has sold over Platinum.
The album has been digitally remastered by Bill Inglot and includes all their worldwide hits. It is the first single
disc hits collection for over 25 years form this Grammy Award-winning band.
History/America’s Greatest Hits, has sold over four million copies
