The Eighth Annual Hoyts Wattie's Cans Film Festival Monday 26 November 2001
On Monday 26 November, cinema fans and families from all over New Zealand will be able to sit back, relax and enjoy a movie at their local Hoyts, Village or participating independent cinema - and just for the price of a can of food per seat.
Moviegoers are being asked to take along a can of food, which will be donated to local Salvation Army food banks - giving a significant boost to the Salvation Army Christmas Food Appeal.
"This time of year is always a busy one for us," says Lt Col Don Oliver of the Salvation Army. "The busy Christmas and holiday season means our food banks are under increased pressure so the food provided by the Cans Festival makes a real difference. We are very grateful for the continued support of the Hoyts Wattie's Cans Film Festival and the generous contributions made by the New Zealand public via this event."
In addition to jointly sponsoring the event, Heinz Wattie's will be donating 10,000 cans to national Salvation Army food banks.
"Heinz Wattie's are proud to be involved with this event which fosters a real community spirit in towns and cities around New Zealand," says Gerard McAleese, Business Manager, Flavour Solutions at Heinz Wattie's Australasia.
Over 145 screenings of recent movies will commence between 6pm and 7pm on Monday evening 26th November. Hoyts, Village and selected independent cinemas around the country will be showing such hits as Shrek, Cats & Dogs, Princess Diaries and Rush Hour 2.
"It is a real privilege to be able to support such a community focused event," said Karen Cafe, Marketing Manager at Hoyts Cinemas. "The Hoyts Wattie's Cans Film Festival is a way for the general public to have a fun night while at the same time supporting the Salvation Army in their community based work. We are grateful to the distributors who generously provide the films and to the contribution from our suppliers, who help make the event such a success."
Moviegoers are encouraged to collect their tickets from their local cinema any time from 18th November to secure a seat.
