NZSO APPOINTS ARTISTIC MANAGER
Ian Fraser, CEO of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, has announced the appointment of Roger Lloyd as the orchestra's Artistic Manager.
Lloyd is currently General Manager of the Wellington Sinfonia, a post he has held since 1995. During his term the Sinfonia's artistic standards and profile have risen significantly and he leaves the central New Zealand region's orchestra in fine fettle.
Ian Fraser said today, "Roger brings a depth of experience to this position in the NZSO. I have every confidence that the orchestra will benefit from his knowledge of all aspects of orchestral management, but particularly those in the artistic area. The NZSO is going great guns and this is an incremental move on our part.
"The dynamics that saw Lloyd leave the NZSO in 1995 after three years as Artistic Manager have changed considerably. Today there is a much more consultative process regarding artistic management which, of course, is at the heart of the NZSO's business. The appointment of the first Music Director, James Judd, in 1999 has provided a new focus for artistic endeavour and I'm sure he and the artistic team led by Roger will work together very well."
Roger Lloyd is a former professional orchestral clarinettist, and was General Manager of the Ulster Orchestra in Belfast before coming to New Zealand in 1993. He will take up his new position at the beginning of December.
