Compilation CD to raise funds for Women's Refuge
Auckland release - Temple - Saturday 20th October 8pm
A Kiwi compilation CD of Artists opposed to Domestic Violence and the recent appalling spates Violence against Women in our Country.
Seventeen Kiwi acts independently releasing a CD of New Zealand songs to benefit the New Zealand Womens Refuge and victims of domestic violence.
What do the following acts have in common? Paua Fritters, Jane Siene, Waterhouse, Deadwait, The Elusive Tones of Wonder, Royal Rumble, Oska, Canvas, The Wellington Heads, Andrea Olsen, Pugface, Ska Trek, Transport, Mr Sterile, Soda, Shift, Deadwait.
They are all Kiwi artists funding the release of the "Rise" Album compilation aimed at providing funds for the ongoing work of the New Zealand's Women's Refuges.
"The Artists are providing 100% funding of the album cut and cover art, as well as providing the tracks, it's our way of standing up as a musical community and saying 'nup, we've had enough' we have the ability to write good songs and this brings us together in a way that bypasses genre, lifestyle, and locality, we're all together in this.. Domestic Violence is wrong. Putting in our meagre finances for others is another way of showing our support, none of us are well off, but we are passionate enough to contribute to a very real and disturbing issue in a very practical way, the way we know best, with our art" Rimu, Project Solidarity.
We are doing a cut of 500 CD's, recorded and mastered locally, although we've had some overseas acts interested (including Bad Manners) this is a Kiwi problem we're trying to deal with and so we're keeping it to Kiwi artists. As well as Refuge details, the artwork also includes contact details for counseling services for those who struggle with violent tendencies within their relationships.
Albums will be on sale at the release venues and through the Women's Refuge. Release Dates: Thursday October 18th Wellington, Indigo Bar Saturday October 20th Auckland, The Temple
