Betham – Campion Out Through Injury

Published: Tue 4 Sep 2001 04:40 PM
Auckland, New Zealand, September 4, 2001 – Daniel Anderson named his team today for Sunday’s qualifying final against the Parramatta Eels and missing from the line up are two workhorses of the pack, Monty Betham and Kevin Campion.
Betham underwent surgery yesterday for the insertion of a plate in his broken left leg (fibula bone). He remains in hospital today. Kevin Campion pulled his left hamstring during the opening moments of last weekend’s game against the Cowboys and unless the Vodafone Warriors progress to the grand final, Campion’s season with the Warriors is over.
“Jason Death will step into the breach this Sunday for Monty Betham and Wairangi Koopu will remain in the pack to cover for the loss of Kevin Campion. Kevin will be travelling with us to Sydney, his finals experience is valuable and even though he is not playing, he will provide leadership through his presence in our camp,” said Anderson.
“Parramatta deserve their favourites tag for the premiership, their achievements so far this year have been outstanding. This weekend is new territory for almost all of my players. There are no expectations on us and we have nothing to lose.”
The Vodafone Warriors team to play the Parramatta Eels is:
1. Ivan Cleary
2. Henry Faafili
3. Clinton Toopi
4. Francis Meli
5. Shontayne Hape
6. Motu Tony
7. Stacey Jones (c)
8. Jerry SeuSeu
9. Jason Death
10. Ali Lauitiiti
11. Logan Swann
12. Awen Guttenbeil
13. Wairangi Koopu
14. Nathan Wood
15. Mark Tookey
16. David Myles
17. Richard Villasanti
18. Justin Murphy
The Vodafone Warriors will take on the Parramatta Eels on Sunday 9 September, 2.00pm at Parramatta Stadium.
