TAB customers who had winning tickets on an Australian race last weekend are to get an extra payout after a computer
malfunction saw the race left “open” at some TAB outlets around the country.
The race affected was Race 6 from Warwick Farm, Sydney, at 5.16pm on Sunday evening.
TAB spokesperson Joe Locke said a computer malfunction meant that the race didn’t close in around 240 TAB outlets south
of Taupo causing confusion when the Jetbet system tried to read tickets.
“What happened was that when people went up to cash in legitimate winning tickets, the computer was saying the race was
still open. So instead of paying out, it was refunding the ticket,” he said.
As well, a few unscrupulous customers, who were aware the race was still open, put winning ticket combinations on. The
TAB is investigating how widespread this was.
Joe Locke said the dividends for the race had now been re-calculated and people with winning tickets on the race could
now claim the difference.
The differences range from 70 cents for the quinella, through to $2.20 for the win and $91.50 for the trifecta. Those
Phonebet accounts affected will be credited.
People with claims can write to Freepost 3750 TAB, PO Box 38899, Wellington Mail Centre. Claimants will need to have
details of the value of the bet, where it was placed and the approximate time.
Joe Locke said the computer malfunction had occurred during the TAB’s migration from the Jetbet system to the new Jetbet
II network.
