shaking
Get your groove on with a premier set of DJs and musicians in a line up to thrill your booty, an easy sound explosion
of soul, funk, roots and premium black beats played purely for pleasure.
In the manner of Wellington¹s Fonky Monks comes another great event combining the style and sophistication of the
Matterhorn and the musical talent of programmer DJ MU, Fat Freddys front-man and reputable Wellington DJ. The Nod
showcases the best of New Zealand¹s black music purveyors; DJs and Musicians delivering a roots and funk based dance
floor in a laid back yet highly cultivated party environment.
The Nod happens harbour-side at The Boatshed on Saturday the 22nd of September, taking the old school dance heads back
to the days when the burgeoning dance scene was boosted by the likes of DJ Cian, Mu, and Koa amongst others.
The Nod presents the best of black music styles currently being played on world wide dance floors and some good old
fashioned head nodding tunes, you¹re sure to recognise. With refreshments served up by the Matterhorn crew, you¹re in
for a plush, lush and lovely evening of pure pleasure.
The Live part of the evening is provided by Wellington¹s answer to the big band. Fat Freddys Drop is flavoured rhythm
heavy with coatings of jazz, soul and funk. The Fat Freddy vibe is rooted here in Aotearoa and their music
interpretations are delivered with an island attitude. The Croon factor is provided smooth as Dairymilk by Dallas
Tamaira supported and saturated with soul by Iain Gordon (keys), Tehi Mana Kerr (Electric Guitar), Toby Laing (Trumpet),
Warren Maxwell (Sax) and DJ MU on the desk.
Manuel Bundy winner of best DJ at last years b-net music awards and resident DJ at the Kuhja and Safari lounges in
Auckland. Manuel¹s last big tour included gigs all over Europe including playing at Carl Craig¹s Detroit Electronic
Music Festival with Mark De Clive Lowe.
>From the celebrated scene expanders The Roots Foundation comes founding member DJ Koa, mixing it all over the place,
with West London sounds, 2 step, dub, downbeat and plenty of party tunes; The Roots Foundation celebrates their 9th
birthday this year.
DJ Cian, also resident at The Kuhja lounge with Manuel, is a key player with The Fonky Monks. He¹s another
well-travelled aficionado and will be showcasing some of the finest, blackest styles the world has to offer.
DJ Vee is resident on Radio Active¹s Friday Night Flava, Friday¹s at The Matterhorn and he¹s a part of jazz funk
bastards Optimus Prime. Vee brings all these sounds together, adding hip hop, breaks, old school and new with a touch of
spice.
