Sunline Favourite For Third Cox Plate
Champion New Zealand mare Sunline has opened as the favourite on the TAB’s fixed odds book to win her third successive W.S.Cox Plate on October 27th.
Sunline, who was beaten for the first time on the Moonee Valley track last week when second in the Manikato Stakes to Piavonic, has been priced at $3.25 to join Kingston Town as the only 3-time winner of the prestigious weight-for-age event.
The only other horse in single figures for the race is Australian Cup winner Northerly at $6.00 with John Hawkes’s three year old Viscount next at $13.00.
Outside of Sunline the next most favoured Kiwi horse is King Keitel at $33.00 with Ethereal and Zonda at $50 and The Message at $100.
Sheila Laxon’s Ethereal and Chris and Colleen Wood’s Kaapstad Way are the joint $16.00 second favourites for the Melbourne Cup to be run at Flemington on November 6th. The outright favourite for the Cup is last seasons AJC Derby winner Universal Prince at $11.00.
A large contingent of New Zealand horses have been nominated for the Melbourne Cup and of the notables Citi Habit has been priced at $33, Lottery Prize $50, and Nikisha, Armstrong and Hill of Grace at $80.
Last year’s runner up Kaapstad Way is the $13.00 favourite to go one better in this year’s Caulfield Cup. Kaapstad Way, who resumes in this Saturday’s Mudgeway Stakes at Hastings, is favoured ahead of Northerly and AJC Oaks winner Rose Archway both at $16.00.
