Hyundai Joins TelstraSaturn to Sponsor 2002 NZ Open
Hyundai Automotive today announced that it is partnering TelstraSaturn as joint naming rights sponsor for what is now to
be named the TelstraSaturn Hyundai NZ Open.
Hyundai Automotive NZ Limited has long been associated with top New Zealand sport, and according to General Manager
Philip Eustace, the opportunity to become a key part of the golf open was ‘simply too good to pass up’.
“The 2002 Open will be a superb event and provides us with a unique opportunity to associate the Hyundai brand with some
of the world’s best known sporting icons,” he said.
“Interest in the event is huge – not just locally, but worldwide – and as such our parent company Hyundai Motor Company
is sharing in this initiative. Already it is estimated some 128 million homes will view the event through pay TV – let
alone other news outlets.”
Hyundai’s involvement represents a ‘significant milestone’ for the tournament, according to David Pool, Managing
Director, Open2002 Limited.
“We are delighted to welcome Hyundai on board,” he said. “The combined contribution of Hyundai, TelstraSaturn and
Steinlager ensures that our corporate sponsorship programme is now largely in place.
“We can now confidently proceed to finalise other key tournament matters.”
Together with co-sponsor TelstraSaturn, Hyundai plans to take maximum advantage of their involvement in the event.
“We will be actively promoting the TelstraSaturn Hyundai NZ Open 2002 throughout New Zealand via our 30-strong dealer
network who will be conducting a number of consumer promotions to allow Hyundai owners – and potential customers – a
chance to share in the magic,” said Mr Eustace.
Hyundai NZ has long been a strong supporter of national sport – including cricket, netball, corporate golf and
boardsailing. Internationally, the brand is a key sponsor of the 2002 Soccer World Cup and of the World Rally.
“This is a very exciting time for the Hyundai brand and we are delighted to be announcing this particular sponsorship.
The event has already been dubbed one of the most exciting in New Zealand’s sporting history - and we, together with
TelstraSaturn, are committed to ensuring it lives up to its promise,” concluded Mr Eustace.
