Armageddon Pulp Culture Expo Wellington Michael Fowler Centre September 15th/16th 2001
NZ ŒS biggest computer gaming and fantasy event has come to Wellington. Here are the details on this exciting event,
following from our success in Auckland at the Aotea centre; Armageddon is pleased to repeat our popular combination of
computer and console gaming, sci-fi, comics and celebrity guests in a massive first time ever event in Wellington.
HISTORY OF ARMAGEDDON
Armageddon expo has been running since 1995, building from a small fan base of 300 attendees to 13,000 in Febuary 2001,
making us one of the biggest events of this type in the world.
Companies such as Microsoft (appeared at 4 events, and sponsored 3), Sony NZ (appeared at 3 events and sponsored 2),
Playstation (appeared at 2 events and sponsor 1), Gateway Computers (appeared as our PC representative at the last two
expos), Nintendo (appeared at 3 events), Quicksilver Internet (internet sponsor for Feb 2001) and more have attend our
expos with a major presence at the event.
Armageddon is the only event that many fantasy stores around NZ attend as well as our growing International company
attendance from Australia, England and the USA with exclusive products unavailable in NZ.
Unlike other expo¹s, Armageddon has many events running throughout the expo, these have included Video screenings,
trading card and Gameboy tournaments, discussion sessions, product demonstrations, exclusive gaming previews (2000 had a
first look in NZ for Playstation 2 and POKEMON stadium on Nintendo), contests, music concerts, and celebrity guests.
Media celebrities that have attended include actors from STAR WARS, BABYLON 5, FARSCAPE, DR WHO, STARGATE SG1, XENA, THE
TRIBE and STAR TREK as well as International Comic Writers from MARVEL, DC and DARK HORSE comics in America and England.
Most of these actors have come especially to NZ for Armageddon and have made their ONLY NZ appearance at the expo. Over
our last five events we have been host to 19 media celebrities and 12 comic writers/artists.
The presence of these guests makes every event unique and encourages patrons from out side of the area to travel to the
event.
WELLINGTON VENUE AND EVENTS SEPTEMBER 2001.
To be held on three levels throughout the Michael fowler centre, located in central Wellington, this event is very
similar to the Auckland show, but with some differences.
The upper level will have Gameboy and trading card tournaments as well as our popular anime screening room.
The lower level will be a display level, with video screenings and A SPECIAL united video, video sale.
The main level (see attached floor plan) is the level that patron enter and exit the event on. It will have all of the
main events for the expo, including - Celebrity signings, with guests from BABYLON 5, CRUSADE, BEASTMASTER, DRAGONBALL
Z, FARSCAPE, and MARVEL COMICS. - Late afternoon music concert featuring EBB and FAT FREDDYS DROP. - Special video
screenings in auditorium - Computer and console gaming areas (see main areas 1-4) - All fantasy and sci-fi companies on
this level - Charity auction and raffles - Advance product demonstrations - BAD TASTE movie screening, the original
Peter Jackson horror movie will be screened, as well as a special reunion of the cast. - And more cool stuff to be
announced.
Celebrity Guests include Sean Schemmel the voice of GOKU in dragonball Z Richard Biggs Dr Stephen Franklin in the
Sci-fi series BABYLON 5 Wayne Pygram the villainous Scorpius in FARSCAPE Marjean Holden from the fantasy series
BEASTMASTER & CRUSADE Richard Arnold Star Trek expert. The cast of BAD TASTE.
