The fun of the famous Munich Oktoberfest is returning to Auckland's Aotea Square on Saturday October 13th with the
second annual Playhouse Oktoberfest.
"Our inaugural Playhouse Oktoberfest was hugely successful and already there has been a lot of interest from people who
attended in 2001," says Cadell Buss, Playhouse Pub Director and Oktoberfest organiser.
More than 5,000 people enjoyed the day's activities at the first Playhouse Oktoberfest last year and even more people
are expected this time round.
Cadell Buss says The Playhouse Oktoberfest 2001 will see the return of all of the most successful elements of the day.
"New Zealand's favourite beers will be available along with good food including hearty German sausages and traditional
giant pretzels. There will be German dancing, and bands will perform traditional and modern music from midday until late
? it's going to be a great party," he says.
Entertainment already confirmed includes the highly entertaining Guggemusik band, and the Holzhacker Bavarian and the
Dalewool Bierhaus bands who will inject a huge dose of ompahpah into the day. The headline act is the very popular
Family Von Trapp group who are again performing direct from Australia.
Another highlight of the day will be the live draw of a trip for two to the Munich Oktoberfest. Lufthansa German
Airlines have sponsored the prize for the competition which is open to all ticket holders.
Aotea Square will be transformed for the celebration with eight large marquees which hold approximately 6,000 people
allowing this event to proceed rain or shine.
"Given that we had more than 5,000 people attend The Playhouse Oktoberfest last year, we expect this year's event to
sell out," says Cadell Buss.
Logistics for the day are impressive with a temporary, 25-metre long bar and two 10-metre square refrigerated containers
being installed in the centre of Aotea Square for the day. It is estimated that over 16,000 litres of beer and 2,500
kilos of sausages will be consumed during the Playhouse Oktoberfest 2001.
Entry to The Playhouse Oktoberfest is only $15 and includes a commemorative beer mug. Tickets go on sale on Monday
