American Express Signs Contract With America's Cup 2003
Auckland, July 9, 2001 - American Express has signed a contract with Team New Zealand and the America's Cup 2003
organisation, to become a key sponsor of the America's Cup Event in 2003.
Under the agreement, announced today, American Express will receive naming rights for the American Express Viaduct
Harbour, Home of the America's Cup Regatta.
Anna Hynes, Country Manager American Express International (NZ), Inc. said the company intends to promote the American
Express Viaduct Harbour as both a domestic and international tourist destination and will be directly involved in many
events leading up to the next America's Cup Regatta in 2002/3. American Express will also explore other marketing
opportunities that will contribute to the Cup Defence.
"We are delighted to be part of the team that will make the America's Cup 2003 event a great success. We are already
working closely with parties involved in the American Express Viaduct Harbour, particularly Team New Zealand, Viaduct
Harbour Holdings Ltd, Auckland City and the other stakeholders to create a great event and help New Zealand defend the
America's Cup," she said.
American Express sponsored the New Zealand Cup Village during America's Cup 2000. The sponsorship commitment for
America's Cup 2003 signals American Express' commitment to growing its business in New Zealand and building brand
awareness in the market.
Ross Blackman, Chief Executive of Team New Zealand and America's Cup 2003, acknowledged the ongoing commitment American
Express has made to the overall success of the America's Cup in Auckland.

for New Zealand's most successful tourist attraction."
Mayor of Auckland City, Chris Fletcher says the eyes of the world will once again be on Auckland's downtown harbour in
2003, for the Louis Vuitton Cup and the America's Cup. "We've built a good reputation and raised expectations so it is
important that we continue to do it well! We appreciate the significant contribution that American Express is making in
promoting and supporting tourism in New Zealand, particularly through their ongoing support for the America's Cup. We
are looking forward to another fabulous America's Cup event."
