This Friday The Matterhorn staff will be resident at The Embassy Theatre serving Plush Bombs and other sly Horn cocktails and generally classing up the joint with their presence, make sure you don't miss out (and check the outfits). Next week we are pleased to present Fabel Records party for their debut release. Join b.lo as he hosts Pylon and guests for an evening of quality local drum and bass YUM!!!! And finally it's our Fourth birthday on the 18th of July, it's a Wednesday night, so get in early and ask your boss for the Thursday off (you'll need it)... !
On Now- An Exhibition in The Matterhorn Gardens: "Taking The Inside Out" The Matterhorn presents a visual installation in The Matterhorn Gardens, starting July 1st local artist Justin Haley stuns coffee and cocktail drinkers alike with his textual interior design on an interior tip, the first in a series of visual installations happening on the walls in The Matterhorn courtyard. The exhibition called "Taking The Inside Out" is a series of wallpaper prints projected onto the walls, Justin's pieces will be rotated automatically providing new scapes for visiting eyes. Friday 6th - Mu and Vee If Mu and Vee were 8 years old, their mums would separate them, but Mum¹s not at The Matterhorn on Friday nightsŠ Give it up for a kaleidoscopic blend of hip hop, future funk, soul and other fat back beats baked to perfection by Roots Foundation founding member, Fat Freddys front-man and Fonky Monk Mu with his sidekick, monkey about town scratchmeister Vee.
Saturday 7th - Zen and Clinton Smiley Zen is living the DJs dream; by day he vends crisp tunes from Chelsea Records in Manners Mall bringing the best of it to the Matterhorn and the world on Saturday nights. You can check him out on The Jewel School radio show on Radio Active 89FM from 7-9 every Saturday and down at The Horn from 10pm playing that new West London styles sound, afro Cuban rhythms, salsa, jazz breaks, house beats and more butt wiggling styles than you can wiggle a butt at! This Week: A mixed bag is DJ Clinton Smiley's thing, he's a big fan of the 2 step garage craze, but he's a dedicated old house and techno head too, plus he'll throw in a few of the hits, a few remixes of the hits and no doubt a cheesy anthem or two... big fun!
Sunday 8thJuly - The Matterhorn presents Gilles Peterson Worldwide I gotta say WE LOVE GILLESŠ he does pretty well for an in demand international DJ, who attends all the best festivals in the world as well as playing a weekly club night in London, and to top that all off, his Worldwide show plays weekly on BBC¹s Radio One and he records a special version for us. He has long been respected by hip hop and drum n bass artists, while the new breed of garage and house acts cite him as a major influence. Tune in 6-8pm on Radio Active 89FM presented by The Matterhorn.
Wednesday 11th July - Jonathan Crayford Crayford¹s band is a compound of experimental and traditional jazz styles. Praised for his work in New York playing with afro Cuban percussionist Tito Puente and the man, James Brown, he is now enjoyed in Wellington, playing twice monthly at The Matterhorn. Crayford has assembled a selection of Wellington¹s finest musicians for jam style sessions.
Thursday 12th July - B.lo presents Fable and Deep Needs! Fable presents Deep Needs, a Drum and Bass label showcasing a collection of Aotearoa drum and bass from Christchurch... this is the release party, join us for fresh new tunes and a couple of hella cool drum and bass DJs!

Join us for a loud and proud celebration of the Wellington sound with a super group in the making by super producer DJ MU! More info to come! We will be closed all day on the 18th and the 19th, but back in biz for the Thursday night (expansions)
Thursday 19th Expansions with b.lo This Bass Frontiers and Stereo Nasties resident plays a complex blend of soul and technology that goes beyond the surface of music for dancing. Voted by Matterhorn staff as DJ most resembling a socialist dictator B.lo is super serious about his music which means anything from rare jazz, indie, soul, electronica, breaks etc, head music is his speciality.
