Graham Fletcher is a New Zealand born Samoan artist. In this series 'Virgin' he continues his exploration of complex cultural issues within a post-colonial context. The Virgin paintings deliberately bring together all the pictorial cliches that have come to represent Polynesia, including images of lush tropical vegitation and flowers along with the recognisable figure of the Pacific Island tempress. Using an excessively colourful palette and thick layers of gloss enamel paint Fletcher has created a sumptuous painterly surface .
